Although it gets some changes and updates for 2021, you can't go wrong with the Mazda CX-5 in either the 2021 or the 2020 model year. The Mazda CX-5 stands out as a top SUV for its athletic build, elegant style, tech-savvy cabin, and impressive safety features. For 2021, the Mazda CX-5 gets a new touchscreen interface over the 2020 model year. The new interface offers a larger display screen and a more user-friendly layout. More technology is added in the form of remote monitoring using a smartphone app. A new trim level called the Carbon Edition, which also provides more power, joins the Mazda CX-5 lineup in 2021. At the top of the line, the Signature trim adds some safety features.

The base engine of the Mazda CX-5 is the same in 2021 as it was in 2020. To start, the base Mazda CX-5 gets a four-cylinder engine with a 2.5L displacement. The engine can achieve 187 HP in its power output, and it also delivers 186 LB-FT for its peak torque. The Mazda's base engine is connected with a six-speed automatic transmission. While front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is available. In 2021 you'll have another engine option starting with the Carbon Edition trim. The Carbon trim has a more powerful turbocharged engine. Its maximum power and torque capacities are 227 HP and 310 LB-FT, respectively, which bumps up a bit if you use high-grade gasoline. This engine also powers the top two trim levels of the Mazda CX-5 in 2020.

A dramatic and sophisticated exterior appearance is a notable highlight of the Mazda CX-5 in 2021 and 2020. The Mazda doesn't receive many changes from one year to the next, which means that you'll see many of the same exterior amenities carry over. The base trim has LED lights and 17-inch alloy wheels. A package available on the second trim adds a power liftgate. The Carbon trim gets custom 19-inch wheels, while the Grand Touring adds heated mirrors. Unique dark gray-colored wheels come with the Signature trim in 2021 and 2020.

Many features are standard on the Mazda CX-5 in 2021 and 2020. The Sport, which is the base trim, has the new 10.25-inch display in 2021 and a seven-inch display in 2020. It also has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Two USB ports are standard, and it has a push-button start. With the Touring comes a 10-speaker Bose stereo. Leather seats are standard on the upper-level trims.
